Composition: Febuxostat Tablets (80mg)

Therapeutic Category: Xanthine oxidase inhibitors

Mechanism of Action: In humans, xanthine oxidase is a critical enzyme for uric acid production as it catalyzes the oxidation reaction steps from hypoxanthine to xanthine and from xanthine to uric acid in the pathway of purine metabolism. Febuxostat inhibits xanthine oxidase blocking both its oxidase and dehydrogenase activities. It reduces uric acid production, and leads to a decreased uric acid level in serum and urine. Febuxostat is taken on a long-term basis to prevent attacks of gout.

Indications: Febuxostat is indicated for the chronic management of hyperuricemia in adult patients with gout.

Dosage: Adult: Initiated at 40mg/day May be titrated to 80mg/day according to the tolerance and response
