Composition:

Esomeprazole Tablets 40mg (With Sodium Bicarbonate as buffer)

Mechanism of Action:

Esomeprazole suppresses acid secretion in stomach by preventing the final step in gastric acid production by irreversibly binding to (H+, K+)-ATPase enzyme at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells which leads to inhibition of gastric acid secretion, irrespective of the stimulus. Sodium bicarbonate is an antacid that neutralizes excess acid in the stomach providing symptomatic relief. This also prevents the uncoated esomeprazole from acid degradation hence contributing to the faster absorption and rapid onset of action of esomeprazole in an immediate release formulation as compared to delayed release esomeprazole.

Indications:

The combination of PPI with sodium bicarbonate buffer is indicated in the short term treatment of duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer (short-term treatment of active benign gastric ulcer), erosive esophagitis, maintenance of healing, symptomatic GERD, upper GI bleeding.

Dosage:

40mg once daily 30 minutes before food or as directed by physician
