Composition: Esomeprazole 40mg enteric coated Tablets

Therapeutic Category: Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)

Mechanism of Action: Esomeprazole works by inhibiting the proton pump in the stomach lining, effectively reducing the production of gastric acid. This reduction helps alleviate symptoms associated with acid-related conditions and promotes healing of damaged tissues.

Indications:

• Esomeprazole aids in the healing of duodenal and gastric ulcers. It can also be used in conjunction with antibiotics to eradicate Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections, which are often responsible for these ulcers.

• The medication is prescribed to prevent gastric ulcers in patients who are taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) long-term, as these medications can increase the risk of developing ulcers.

Dosage:

1. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) / Acid Reflux

Adults & Adolescents (≥12 years):

40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks

Maintenance dose: 20 mg once daily if needed

2. Helicobacter pylori Eradication (as part of triple therapy)

40 mg once daily for 10 to 14 days

Combined with Amoxicillin 1g and Clarithromycin 500 mg (twice daily)

3. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (Hypersecretory Conditions)

 Initial dose: 40 mg twice daily

Adjusted dose: Can be increased to 80 mg to 160 mg daily, divided into two doses

4. NSAID-Induced Gastric Ulcer Prevention

40 mg once daily for 6 months
