Mechanism of Action:
Nitrofurantoin is an antibacterial agent specific for urinary tract infections and is bactericidal in urine at therapeutic doses. Nitrofurantoin is reduced by bacterial flavoproteins to reactive intermediates which alter bacterial ribosomal proteins and other macromolecules. As a result of such inactivation’s, the vital biochemical processes of protein synthesis, aerobic energy metabolism, DNA synthesis, RNA synthesis and cell wall synthesis are inhibited.
Indications:
It is used to prevent and treat infections of the bladder, kidney and other parts of the urinary tract.

The dose depends on the weight of the child and will be provided by your doctor. Follow your doctor’s instructions exactly.
Children below 3 months of age should not be given Nitrofurantoin Oral Suspension.
