Mechanism of Action: Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is a fat-soluble vitamin that undergoes two hydroxylation steps to become biologically active. First, it is converted in the liver to calcifediol (25-hydroxyvitamin D3), then further hydroxylated in the kidneys to calcitriol (1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3), the active form. Calcitriol binds to the vitamin D receptor (VDR) in target tissues, primarily in the intestines, bones, and kidneys, to regulate calcium and phosphate homeostasis. It enhances intestinal calcium absorption, promotes bone mineralization, and helps maintain normal neuromuscular function. Additionally, Vitamin D3 has immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, influencing various cellular functions beyond bone health.

Dosage:

 Infants (0-12 months): 400 IU (1 mL) per day

 Children (1-18 years): 600–1000 IU (1.5–2.5 mL) per day

 Adults: 600–2000 IU (1.5–5 mL) per day, depending on deficiency levels

 Pregnant & Lactating Women: 600–2000 IU (1.5–5 mL) per day

 Elderly (65+ years): 800–2000 IU (2–5 mL) per day
