Mechanism of Action: Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.2% w/v exerts its antimicrobial effect by binding to bacterial cell walls due to its cationic nature, leading to increased permeability and leakage of intracellular components at low concentrations, and cytoplasmic precipitation at higher concentrations, resulting in cell death. It is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with some antifungal and antiviral activity. Additionally, its substantively allows it to bind to oral and skin surfaces, providing a prolonged antimicrobial effect even after rinsing or washing. This dual action—bacteriostatic at low doses and bactericidal at higher concentrations—makes it a widely used antiseptic for oral hygiene, wound cleansing, and infection control.

Indications:

 Prevents gingivitis, plaque, and bad breath.

 Used as an antiseptic rinse for oral infections and post-dental procedures.

 Helps disinfect minor cuts, wounds, and burns.

 Used before surgeries or injections to reduce infection risk.

 Catheter and medical equipment cleaning

 Helps reduce bacterial contamination in healthcare settings.

Dosage:

1. Oral Rinse (Mouthwash) for Gingivitis & Plaque Control

10 mL undiluted solution

Frequency: Rinse twice daily (morning & evening) for 30 seconds

Duration: Usually up to 4 weeks, or as prescribed by a dentist

2. Post-Dental Surgery or Oral Ulcers

10–15 mL undiluted solution

Frequency: Twice daily for 7–14 days, or as advised by a dentist

3. Wound Cleansing & Skin Disinfection

Apply directly using a clean cotton swab or gauze

Frequency: 1–2 times daily as needed

Do not apply to deep wounds or burns without medical supervision

4. Pre-Surgical Skin Preparation

Apply a generous amount to the surgical site
