Composition: Cefixime for Oral Suspension USP (50mg/5ml in 60ml)

Therapeutic Category: Third Generation Cephalosporins

Mechanism of Action: Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which is essential for bacterial survival. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and prevents the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.

Indications:

Respiratory Tract Infections – Tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) – Cystitis, pyelonephritis Ear Infections (Otitis Media) – Middle ear infections caused by susceptible bacteria Typhoid Fever – Especially in children, as an alternative to other antibiotics Skin & Soft Tissue Infections – Mild to moderate bacterial infections Gastrointestinal Infections – Certain cases of bacterial diarrhea

Dosage:

General Pediatric Dosage (Based on Body Weight)

Children 6 months – 12 years: 8 mg/kg/day, given as a single dose or divided into two doses (every 12 hours).

Approximate Dosage Based on Age

6 months – 1 year: 3.75 ml – 5 ml once daily or divided into two doses.

1 – 4 years: 5 ml – 7.5 ml once daily or divided into two doses.

5 – 12 years: 10 ml once daily or divided into two doses.

For Severe Infections

Doctor may recommend 12 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
